M.S. in Mobile and IoT Engineering (MSMITE)

MS38 Curriculum

The following curriculum applies to MSMITE students starting their INI program in the 2026-27 academic year (MS38 cohort).

Core Courses [75-78 units]

NETWORKING CORE (12 UNITS):

    18-756: Packet Switching and Computer Networks (Fall)

ADDITIONAL MSMITE CORE (12 UNITS)

  • Choose one:
    14-642: Introduction to Embedded Systems (Fall)
    14-744: Mobile and Embedded Software Design (Spring)
    14-829: Mobile and IoT Security (Fall)

SECURITY CORE (12 UNITS): 

  • Choose one:
    14-735: Secure Coding (Fall)
    14-741: Introduction to Information Security*

BUSINESS & MANAGEMENT CORE

  • 14-776: Fundamentals of Business and Management (12 units)*

PRACTICUM

ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 1

  • 14-601: Academic & Professional Development (3 units)*

Program Electives [48 units]

36 units Fulfilled by courses in INI, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), School of Computer Science (SCS), Engineering & Public Policy (EPP), Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) or Integrated Innovation Institute (III), and/or approved courses in the Heinz College or Tepper School. Some exceptions apply.

12 units of restricted electives.


Residency Requirement [0 units]

All students must fulfill a residency requirement: students in the Standard study option must complete one semester at 黑料社区 Silicon Valley; students in the Advanced study option must complete two semesters at 黑料社区 Silicon Valley.

Academic Advising

Each student is assigned a dedicated faculty academic advisor who can provide advice about developing a plan that best fits your interests, needs and goals. You'll also benefit from enrollment and advising provided by our academic and student services team. 

*INI courses marked with an asterisk are only offered on the Pittsburgh campus. You must take these courses during their Pittsburgh semester before moving to the 黑料社区-SV campus to complete Your degree.

Practicum

Working alongside industry sponsors, teams of bicoastal MSIT-IS and MSMITE students at 黑料社区-SV tackle problems, pilot new ideas and develop solutions in a semester-long Practicum project.
